I made these two moodboards a while ago for a contest (that I didn’t win, in fact I have no idea who did :))) and they kind of go perfectly with my current state of mind and the things I’m drawn to right now.

I feel there’s never enough time to love: hot coffee, stags, sheer fabrics, black leather, meteorite rings, old books, watercolors, fantasy, enchanting perfumes, love letters, long dark hair, orange leaves, game of thrones, dried roses, studs and spikes, mininatures, glitter and gold, wings, red lips, the galaxy, floor length dresses, magic.

I know, I know – I’m so very last year! :)

Ulyana Sergeenko spring/summer 2012 – a backstage point of view

Everybody (including me) is raving about this beautiful Russian socialite/photographer turned fashion designer - you know I’m talking about Ulyana Sergeenko! Her debut collection made such a huge splash I was anxiously expecting the second one.

And here we are – while not as memorable as the first, this second collection of hers poetically called "Brigitte Bardot in the Soviet" is still beautiful and very much her style: nipped-in waists, maxi lengths, puffy skirts, sheerness, head scarves, floral prints. I do love how wearable and feminine most of the looks are and I’m very curious to see the lookbook, I’m sure she’ll come up with a great concept.

I bet you’ve seen the collection on many blogs before so I’m going to show you some amazingly expressive photos taken backstage that also happen to showcase some of my favorite looks Ulyana Sergeenko created for spring/summer 2012.

Romantic military coat

The way I fell about some of my clothes may seem crazy sometimes! Take this dress for example: it’s not the prettiest I own but I do love it because I had some good times while wearing it. It’s a feel good dress and goes wonderfully with a floral silk scarf.

You’ll have to excuse these photos – the light was awfull that day and I wasn’t wearing makeup (except the black eyeliner :))). Other than that I threw a military coat over the dress, a few necklaces and rings and I was ready to rock&roll (aka go to work).

I’m so glad I have a stash of photos I took before this dreadful cold weather took over Romania because I’m still sick and not really camera ready, if you know what I mean!

You’d never get out of bed

I don’t need any reasons to spend more time in bed with my books or watching mind numbing or just amazing TV Shows, but what I DO need it’s one of these babies!

It’s so cold and gloomy in Bucharest right now and I have such a horrible cold I can’t imagine anything better than a huge, warm and cozy bed with crisp white or colorful sheets and many pillows to sleep in, dream and forget about everything. I would also need hot tee around the clock, comfort food and cheesy movies.

I’m super needy when I’m sick and I love everybody to make a fuss about it, pity and take care of me. Alice on the other hand is very stoic; she just suffers in silence and doesn’t say anything about it. I find that to be disturbing, how am I suppose to know you’re sick if you don’t make loud noises and wallow in your own suffering like there’s no tomorrow?!!! I’m not a mind reader, you know! :))))

Creepers go mainstream

You might have noticed that my style isn’t really affected by trends. I’m open to pretty much anything but at the end of the day I like what I like and only choose those trends that go with my personality.

But now and again there’s a trend or two that really insinuates into my head. It’s usually the weird ones. Right now I’m a bit obsessed with creepers! Damn you, Prada! You have revived the creepers giving them a new face.

The new creeper is the love child of Malcolm McLaren&Vivienne Westwood variants sold in the early 70’s in their shop "Let it Rock" and the preppy, colorful oxfords. We also have dark, sexier variants that are equally appealing to me.

I've made some collages with some pairs I like and could find online!

Viewed by many as really ugly and weird, creepers (also known as Brothel Creepers) were mostly worn as an underground style staple by rockers and pinball psychobillies. This type of shoe first appeared right after the second WW when the soldiers based in the North African desert during the war began wearing the iconic crepe soled shoes in the London night clubs.

In the late 50’s they were worn by Teddy Boys and beginning in the 70’s they were being sold on London's Kings Road.

They resurfaced in a big way when Prada introduced their 2011 spring/summer collection. Since then every major and minor high street brand has created different variants of creepers, many of them looking great. Street style everywhere featured them in really cool outfits.

While I really like some of them a lot, I can’t help but think they won’t survive mainstream for long, creepers will always be the mark of a few subculture movements (ska, punk, new wavers, psychobilly, greasers, goth, Japanese Visual Kei).
I actually think that’s great. Mianstream has this power of pretty much ruinning things!

I really love the 20’s inspiration in clothes and hairstyles this season. I’m usually not what you would call a trend chaser but I’m just dying to try the waved flapper bob hairdo.

“The Great Gatsby” is one of my favorite books so I guess that’s the main reason I fancy myself as a modern Daisy Buchanan. Also I already have the bob so I might as well wave and tousle it. Easy to say, but it seems so complicated to actually achieve.

Right about now I could really use the new ghd Scarlet Collection Limited Edition that was actually created with the roaring 20’s in mind. Just look at the pictures of Katy Perry taken by David LaChapelle for the product launch! So very provocative!

Fur collars and bow ties

Despite a miserable cold that made me spend the whole weekend in bed heavily medicated, this week started quite well. I even dug up these photos with a little something I wore during my trip to Brussels that I thought I should show you guys.

I firmly believe in visiting a city while being a bit overdressed – it’s the least you can do to celebrate such an occasion – hence the fur, high heels, even the cute leather bow tie I made myself (check out my Etsy store for more). I’m found of wearing warm jumpers over dresses – a chic and comfortable way to get your visiting on! :)))

But the best tip I can give you it’s that no matter where you go choose wisely who you go with: that can make or break everything. I should know! :)))

The Hunger Games – the books, future movie and cast overview

I’ve just finished reading The Hunger Games Trilogy by Suzanne Collins. I read the last word of the third book in the series (Mockingjay) a couple of minutes ago and then hit Google to see if they have a movie in the making. They obviously do – this is the time when anything fantasy will certainly be a success; especially this series that’s an addictive combination of Battle Royal and Survivor with an ethical edge and a sprinkle of romance.

I guess I’ve always been into fiction but just recently got the sience fiction and fantasy bug. Damn you, Harry Potter and A song of Ice and Fire! It’s really bad. I mean, I can’t help myself. I’ve read the three books in less than five days, I just felt I couldn’t do anything else properly until I was done. Now I can finally live again! Until I find another book I can obsess all over again that is!!!

What I loved about this trilogy? Well it’s something easy to digest while also being reasonably deep and making you wonder about some things. And it’s funny and hearbreaking, unexpected and totally predicteable in some ways. The charachters are faulty and damaged – they are human. And while the story takes place in a post apocalyptic world, some things in this book really hit home. Don’t expect me to compare it with Twilight. It’s about 100 times better!
It also got me saying a few times: "Suzanne Collins, you cold hearted bitch!!!!” I don’t know what’s with this contemporary authors and their thirst to kill their charachters as soon as you start loving them so much you think the book couldn’t go on without them.

I don’t want to say too much in case you want to read the three books (The Hunger Games, Catching Fire and Mockingjay) yourself.

The movie made after the first book - The Hunger Games - will be realeased in 2012 (march I think). I was super curious to see the cast they’ve chosen to embody the personages I came to love, hate or despise in the books. I already imagined them in a way so I have a pretty good idea about how they should look and act.

I’m happy with Jennifer Lawrence playing the main character Katniss "The Girl on Fire" Everdeen (the books are written from her perspective) – I think she can make this thricky character her own.

I guess Liam Hemsworth could pull off a decent Gale Hawthorne (hate the fact he doesn’t seem to have the longer hair in the movie unlike the book’s version).
I don’t see Josh Hutcherson as Peeta Mellark, but we’ll have to wait and see.
What I do think is a brilliant cast move is Woody Harrelson as Haymitch Abernathy and Lenny Kravitz as Cinna.
You’d beter cast someone gorgeous as Finnick Odair for the second movie cause I have a huge crash on him in the book and I don’t want to be disappointed!:)))))))))

That being said I hope this first movie will be great and they will transform the next two volumes into movies too. Not everybody likes to read!:))))))))

Is anyone else slightly obsessed with exposed zippers?! I feel they make everything better! No wonder I almost heard angels sing when I found this cute nude jacket while thrifting. And on top of that it has a cool tye-dye effect. Lucky me!

For its first trip outside I paired it with a mini skirt and my favorite floppy hat. I’m also wearing a leather statement necklace that I made myself (you can buy it from my Etsy Store).

I always throw a trench on top when I’m wearing minis – the pervs of Bucharest don’t need any kind of encouraging if you know what I mean.

Also I enjoy the balance between the two lengths and a good trench makes me feel like a secret agent/spy/superhero. You never know what one could wear under a trench!!! It could be ~~nothing~~ anything!:)))))

Burberry Prorsum Spring/Summer 2012

My favorite collection for spring/summer 2012 is definitely the one Christopher Bailey masterfully delivered for Burberry Prorsum. He characterized it as being "joyous, upbeat, nostalgic" which I couldn’t agree more. It’s also amazing and sophisticated in a very modern and colorful way.

I adore the complex beading and braiding details, the big bags and the beautiful ethnic prints. And how about those shoes: the platforms with heavy strand of beads in the front are stunning!

While the color palette (peacock, hawthorne, chocolate and ochre) is not necessarily “on trend”, I find it refreshing and easier to wear than the neon frenzy direction other designer went with.

The outwear that’s Burberry’s signature is truly fantastic: those cool cropped parkas with amazing beading and those raffia weaved trenches left me speechless.

The clothes seem a bit warm for the seasons are meant to but I think these pieces are something that can be worn anytime, this is one collection that’s above seasons.

I also love the elegant and effortless feel of the mid length skirts paired with the colorful sweaters with artisanal details. The whole collection feels so expensive and you can see how much craftsmanship went into every piece. That’s what I call perfection!

My pie rack

Remember my TV Show Tuesday? Well - it’s back on! This time I have a super hilarious scene from Last Man Standing which is a new comedy on ABC that’s really funny unlike many others airing right now.

I personally think this may be the best way to get over a breakup while also showing that asshole what he’s missing! :))))))

In case you don’t watch it, here’s the deal: Mandy decides that the best way to get back at her ex-boyfriend Travis would be to make a music video inspired by Cry me a river (Justin Timberlake) so she enrolls her two sister as the backup dancers and singers and makes the video in the dinner her big sister works at after closing using the phone, hence the waitress uniforms as a wardrobe choice.
Another hilarious detail (except the dance moves, overall performance and lyrics) is they call themselves The Inglorious Baxters (Baxter is their family name).

In case you can't find the words to write your own revenge breakup song, take a cue from this masterpiece of metaphors:

Pleated polka dots skirt with electric blue accents

Ok, my first outfit this year is actually something that I wore last year but didn’t get the chance to show to you. Ironic, huh?! But seriously the weather is so weird I could actually wear this right now! I can’t even remember a winter here in Romania quite like this one: it always snows a lot…well, except this year; not that I’m complaining!

Other than that I’m trying to stay away from stores right now but I’m doing a terrible job at best. The thing is I love sales, but my house looks like it’s being taking over by clothes, they are everywhere - I’m having a hard time with that. I also don’t want to exhaust my credit card and stuff; I still need to pay my rent after all.

Talking about sales, the leather jacket in the pictures is one I got on clearance last year! I think it looks cool with my retro polka dots pleated skirt. The blue fringe statement necklace is handmade by yours truly (you can buy it from my Etsy Store). Hope you like it!

Lana Del Rey – the poetic side of the prom queen complex

Lana Del Rey is the latest internet musical sensation - everybody on my Facebook wall (and their mother) share her videos. She’s any music producer wet dream: an amazingly polished “IT girl” style and a very distinct voice – the fatal combination of looks and talent.

Her debut album hasn’t been yet released (it’s programmed for the end of January 2012) but the buzz is already overwhelming. Here are some interesting facts about this pouty lips beauty that got people talking:

Lana Del Rey is her stage name (a poetic combination of the first name of old Hollywood actress Lana Turner and a Ford model from 1981), she's 25 years old, her actual name is Elisabeth Grant and she’s the daughter of millionaire Robert Grant
She first launched her career in 2010 under a different name (Lizzie Grant) and with different lips and style which brought a lot of accusations about her being totally manufactured.

There's something fascinating about Lana Del Rey – she’s such a beauty, perfect on the outside, obsessed with the Hollywood aesthetic, yet somehow broken, fragile and decadent personality wise, an introvert who’s constantly trying to make sense of the world. What really gets me it’s the contrast between her nostalgic retro look and the dark mood and feel of her songs. So emotionally charged and sad!
The girl is a huge drama queen, if I’d ever seen one! I love that about her!

Her deep, husky voice, sometimes described as a “gangsta” Nancy Sinatra makes her distinct. The Daily Transmission called her sound “Cinematic dark pop wrapped in smoky, sultry and glamorous overtones” which I think is a brilliant way to put it.

What makes Lana Del Rey even more memorable is her retro style inspired by the 50’s and the 60’s with a modern “California girl” vibe that’s very in right now. I also see a lot of Lauren Bacall and Brigitte Bardot influences in the way she looks and what she wears.

While her lyrics may be sometimes cliché, her songs are quite addictive – her voice is mesmerizing, very soulful and cold at the same time.

And then came the videos!!! So far they were perfect, refreshing and sad (far from the usual ho fest that the music videos have become nowadays).
First we have Video Games – a strange combination of David Lynch vibes and old home made video montages that stirs a bit of emotion out of anybody.
Then we have Born to Die that’s a beautifully edited, tragic story that goes perfectly with the hallucinant song. It also happens to be laced with symbolism, but who cares about that, right?!
It’s all about the esthetically breathtaking factor with Lana Del Rey! So much so that many hurried to discuss the old “style over substance’ subject which I think to be total rubbish in this particular case.

I’ve also found this really cool interview she gave to Rolling Stone (via here):

On her songwriting: “My writing process…it’s been the same for a very long time. I never feel rushed. I never feel pressure. I really have a strong idea about what I like to hear and myself write and sing. A deadline never compromises things for me. If I didn’t have the right material, I would never release it.”

On her sound and visual references: “I keep it really clear. I talk a lot about Thomas Newman’s score for American Beauty. That was a soundtrack I really was inspired by. Giorgio Mirto, I talk about the orchestral work he’s done. Think Thomas Newman score for American Beauty meets early Bruce Springsteen ’sex Americana.’ And put them together, but place it in Miami and have me singing it. That’s what I tell them.”

On early musical influences: “When I was 11, I saw Kurt Cobain singing ‘Heart Shaped Box’ on MTV and it really stopped me dead in my tracks. And I thought he was the most beautiful person I had even seen. Even at a young age, I really related to his sadness. I felt like I was really searching for answers. And I thought I could see that in him, briefly, in 3 minutes and 42 seconds, or whatever. So I saw him for the first time on TV when I was 11, and I never revisited his music again until I was about 17 or 18; and then when I did, it still meant just as much to me then and it’s continued to be my primary inspiration—in terms of not wanting to compromise lyrically or sonically. Not making music that I..thought was really stupid. Just singing over pop tunes just to be famous.”

2011 in outfits

It’s seems I’m never truly able to make a proper retrospective of anything: I just don’t have events rationally systematized in my head; it’s all a blur of emotions, colors and tastes. So you see why I need to have a blog - to actually remember what happened to me :)), this and achieving world fame and domination! :))).

What I do recall about this year is: I’ve been happy, I’ve been sad, I’ve read many books, I laughed a lot, I’ve cried a bit, I’ve listened to tons of music, I’ve loved, hoped, been disappointed, made mistakes, I’ve watched way too many TV shows, wore a lot of dresses, I’ve been miserable and ecstatic, I bought an outrageous number of rings, made some new friends, I gave up others, I had some good times, I’ve dreamed and walked on clouds! It’s been a busy year!

Three of my favorite spring 2012 campaigns have a really cool retro vibe with a heavy cinematographic feel to them. They also have the classic beauty called Natasha Poly in common.

The spring 2012 campaign for Prada is photographed by Steven Meisel at a gas station (hinting at the colorful car prints used in the collection) and features Natasha Poly alongside Meghan Collison, Elise Crombez, Ymre Stiekema and Katryn Kruger.

The 1950 are heavily referenced in Proenza Schouler 2012 spring campaign: the tropical prints look amazing on a pin up Natasha with messy rockabilly hairstyle. The pictures seen through Willy Vanderperre’s lenses look like vintage postcards. I’m absolutely in love with Olivier Rizzo’s styling for this campaign.

Finally there are Jil Sander’s ads photographed by the same Willy Vanderperre. This time the 50’s inspired spring collection gets an authentic Hitchcock vibe and all the creepy and cool of a film noir atmosphere.

Beautiful clutter

Wouldn’t you just love to live in a house like these? I know I would! I actually dream of having a place of my own and make it look dreamy. I know for sure it would be something like this: a cozy, beautiful clutter, with most of my clothes exposed, somehow being part of the whole decor. No minimalism for me - I’m a hoarder!

I would also love having colorful appliances – I think a pink fridge and stove would make for a very welcoming kitchen and would take the cold, unfamiliar, standardized feeling out of the machines that make our life easier. I also love the idea of white with warm pops of color and lots of beautiful boxes, pictures and personal objects spread all over the place.

The H&M showroom

It’s been almost a month since I visited the H&M showroom. I intended to publish this article a while ago but things happened and so here we are, a couple of weeks later. I just realized today I should do it before the collections actually find their way in and out of the Romanian stores.

The beautiful mansard showroom accommodates the newest H&M collections before they hit the stores and works as a preview tool for press, bloggers, mainly people who can create a buzz/interest even before the clothes get into the stores. Diana Tofan who’s in charge at the H&M showroom gracefully showed me around while I took tones of pictures.

There are a lot of cool things in the spring collection; I’ve photographed some of my favorites.

I can’t believe 2011 is already over! It was an interesting year for me - with lots of ups and downs, but I guess life is like that. I’m ready for a New Year and I’m excited to make this one truly spectacular; I’m going to make things happen, guys!

One extraordinary thing this year brought was an unexpected and very fast growth of this blog. I didn’t see that coming, but I have all of you to thank for it. It’s been only 6 months since me and Sara really started to update the blog daily and the results are amazing. We’re determined to improve it even more in 2012! Thank you so much!

You know how I live for jewelry and small enchanting accessories, right?! So I thought I should give you a best of 2011 in details. It’s only the first in a series of three, next I’ll post a best of outfits and best of makeup and hairdos I sported this past year!

Parka dreams and studded boots

Snapping out of the holiday mood is a real bummer! I was getting used to lazing around, eating, reading and watching TV all day long but then I realized I didn’t update the blog for a few days and felt guilty. Being a responsible adult is so hard, guys! I wouldn’t know but I imagine it is! :))))

So here I am with the last two outfits I created around the green dress. Everything I’m wearing except the chain earcuffs is New Look. You can find the other two looks here!

The first is an edgier approach to an otherwise feminine get up. When I saw this asymmetric parka in the store I experimented an almost slow motion moment, romantic music and all – it’s really perfect with the hood, cool shape and all the pockets and zippers. And how about the boots that can be worn two ways: laced up all the way or rolled down revealing the rock&roll studded details?! They look great both ways.

The second outfit is all about layers with the cute stripped sweater over the dress and the long, soft cardigan worn over all that. I trust you remember the wicked animal print pumps from last time!

10 easy DIY ideas for Holiday wreaths (center pieces)

Only two days until Christmas are left so I thought I should squeeze a fast holyday DIY project for all of you. Pretty much everybody is in vacation mood by now so I guess you have some free time to make a beautiful wreath to decorate the door, the walls or even the Christmas table.

The ideas and materials I found are very diverse so anybody should have at least one of them just lying around the house. Let’s start!

♥ How about some colorful globes and cute fabric?! I bet all of you have those!

♥ Colorful thick yarn and felt can always be put to good use!!! Here’s the proof!

♥ Do you have some apples, pine cones, nuts, acorns, chestnuts to spare? Well, than get busy and make one of these:

♥ Did you ever think you could use burlap sacks to make such beautiful things; this wreaths look really cool and rustic. I love them!!!

♥ Do you have some dry plants (lavender), greenery and forest fruits around (cranberries)? Then you should make something like this:

♥ You know you can use Brussels sprouts for more than food, right? Just look at this cutie!!!

♥ Go ahead and gather as many leaves as you can and string them on a wire!

♥ How about a different way to use the Christmas lights?

♥ For all of those who have lots of cut buttons, put them to good use and make a wreath out of them!

♥ Simple greenery wreaths with white, sheer bows can look so beautiful, don’t you think so?

Event: Sun Plaza 2012 Calendar Launch

Remember how I told you that last Thursday evening was a busy but enjoyable night for me?
Well this is the second event I went to: the 2012 Sun Plaza Calendar Launch who took place at The Gang Restaurant & Lounge. The photos for the limited edition calendar (only 500 copies were released, all numbered and having a certificate of authenticity) were taken by Cristian Crisbasan who was graciously signing them for all the guests.

I arrived late but I had a good time. The Next PR girls that organized the launch (Florina Axinia, Ana Paun, Otilia Mihailov-Dumitrescu) were super nice and helpful, making me feel welcomed and providing all the information I needed. They even sent me photos from the event as I didn’t have time to snap as many as I wanted. The get together was very relaxed, the crowd super cool - I was actually sorry I couldn’t make it in time.

I had the same outfit on (obviously), only this time you get to see the New Look red coat I was wearing over. I imagine Little Red Riding Hood was wearing something similar while crossing the woods to see her granny :)))). The huge fabulous red hood was the reason I choose it frOm the store. I just can’t say no to a nice fairytale detail/hint in a piece of clothing.

I also have to say taking photos in populated areas of Bucharest is the worst idea ever - unless you like being verbally abused/propositioned by sleazy construction workers type men. Never again!

Event: LaChatterie Gold Label Launch

Last Thursday evening was both busy and pleasant as I attended two very nice events. Today I’m telling you a bit about the first: the launch of the LaChatterie’s Gold Label at their showroom (19, Bibescu Vodă st.). The line’s first collection „Blue Angels, Red Lights" it’s a beautiful mix of romantic and edgy elements with details that are very in right now: collar tips, studs, asymmetric lengths, faux fur and leather insertion.

The outfit I’m wearing at the event including the jewelry is head to toe New Look as part of my ongoing collaboration with the English brand. I‘m going to show you the beautiful New Look coat I was wearing over tomorrow when I’ll talk about the second event I went to.

I always ask my sister how do I look before going out and she always has a funny (most of the times) or helpful (rarely) comment. This time she said and I quote: “Holly Guacamole! This dress really makes you b***s pop! Did you have some work done?” which was super hilarious as we live together (most of the time). Other than the dress I just love the silver cardigan, so slouchy and light weight and the oversized purple clutch.

10 easy DIY ideas for mini Christmas trees

Guys, I found some great ideas for miniature Christmas trees that you can make yourself using ordinary supplies that you probably already have laying around the house. The only thing you need is a little bit of free time and patience. They will make for some great Holiday decorations and will cheer you up for sure!

I used to make a lot of Christmas decorations when I was little, I loved it and it was something I expected all year long. I’m really hoping to get that feeling back by attempting to make some of these:

♥ The cupcake liners Christmas tree
You’ll need: a wide short glass (it would be cool to fill it with orange peel), white cupcake liners, silver glitter, a small decoration for the top.

A colorful, glittery version (right side)! So cute!!!

♥ The green yarn Christmas tree

You’ll need: a cardboard cone, thick green yarn, little yarn colorful globes, cardboard star for the top.

♥ The feathers Christmas tree

You’ll need: a cardboard cone, white feathers (you can make it any color you wish if you have colorful feathers), glue.

♥ Colorful fabric and paper Christmas tree

You’ll need: a cardboard cone, colorful fabric and paper, ribbon, buttons, a small decoration for the top, scraps of lace, velvet and glue.

♥ The paper Christmas tree

You’ll need: a glass candle holder or a long metal stick, paper, cardboard stars

♥ The red fabric flowers Christmas tree

You’ll need: a cardboard cone, red fabric, scissors, white beads or gold beads, thread, glue, big gold star for the top.

♥ Tall serving rack Christmas three

You’ll need: a three (or more) tier serving rack OR a three tier cupcake stand, different cute objects you have around in white, red and green to decorate the rack, you can always fill the rack with colorful food.

♥ The buttons Christmas tree

You’ll need: a cardboard background (you can pin it up on the wall), lots of buttons of different colors, shapes and sizes, glue, little beads, colorful paper to cut out the small present boxes and the star on the top of the tree, thread

You’ll need: a tall white vase, tree branches, Christmas globes (they look really elegant in white), a big green, fabric bow, thin rope to decorate the upper part of the vase.

Brussels diary - part three

Here’s another small dose of Brussels through my eyes (and lenses)! Photography is such an amazing thing, helping us when beautiful memories fade away, giving them sharpness, brilliant colors and emotion.

I love wondering around a new, unknown city without any maps or clear plans, I feel like I’m about to discover something amazing at every corner. The feeling that nobody knows you there is wonderful; you can be anyone you want to be.

Another thing I love is eating chocolate! But I would never be so cruel as to destroy this sweet cocoa bear.

Forget about beer! The waffles are the best thing about Brussels: they come in a million flavors and toppings, try as many as you can! I did!

When in Brussels don’t forget the Atomium – it’s pretty spectacular!

My New Look (part one)

I’m starting to get into the holiday spirit which I don’t usually do, but, hey, there’s a start for everything. I’m just happy the worm, fuzzy and highly unfamiliar feelings are not medication induced! :)))))

Part of my good mood last week was the invitation I got from New Look to get wild in one of their stores in Bucharest. And so I did! This is a New Look + Alice = LOVE type situation. Talking about a kid in a candy store!

While wandering around I got this idea I should choose an item and create a few different outfits around it. Then I came across a super cute green dress with little white stars! That was it! I told you there’s something in the air!

That’s how this “4 ways to wear a dress” article got to be written.

♥ Lady and the tramp

When I thought I couldn’t possibly find anything cuter I got my hands on this adorable deep red, military coat. Green and red? Do you see what I’m doing here?!!!

The mustard ~~stripper style~~ shoes are the unexpected thing; they were shamelessly calling my name, I’m powerless to the charms of shoes ~~and handsom boys~~, their calls are like siren songs to me!:)))) And how about the bag? Both charming and practical! I got a little bit overboard with the photos but it was hard to decide which ones to publish (after I almost froze my ~~ass~~ minds off taking them, Denisa was behind the camera).

♥ Comfortable chic

Nothing better for the winter than a beautifully knitted, long cardigan with a faux fur collar. So chic and warm. Doubles as a pet if in urgent need for affection! Also this type of cardigan makes me feel all grown up (which I am, ok?!). But don’t be fooled by my candid, smiling face. I like my shoes dirty! Don’t you just love the animal print pumps? New Look has the best shoes!

Brussels by night – part two

Here is part two of the photo diary of my trip to Belgium.

Brussels by night can only be described as magical - more so during the holiday season. I was lucky enough to stumble upon a light show in Central Square and couldn’t help using my camera for a bit.

It looks like a giant, real size Disney Castle, right?

This is what I was wearing – a formal type outfit with a twist (I did something job related in the morning and afternoon and didn’t feel like changing): a denim shirt instead of the boring white, classic one and a spiked red leather bow tie that I made myself.

Can you believe this weather? I mean is December and as warm as early fall. High five global warming!!! If not for the social pressure I would almost not wear tights. :))))). Joking guys – social pressure is not something I worry about – my skin on the other hand is kind of important for my well being :))).

This outfit is my go to get up for a normal day at the office: a skirt and a cute blouse garnished with lots of jewelry and a comfortable trench throwned on top. It’s a less than five minutes job. If you’re really in a hurry than wear a dress!:))))

Can’t even tell you how much I love a good trench – there’s nothing classier than a trench worn with a colorful scarf. You can wear pajamas underneath and still look cool and effortless. Just look at me!:))))

This semi sheer, pleated skirt calls for twirling around, so stop judging me! I can see you do!:))))

Brussels – part one

I thought the best way to tell you about my time in Brussels is through photos - these were snapped the first two days I spent there.

I love living in hotel rooms – there is something liberating and festive about that. Hence the obligatory and highly moronic ~~photos~~ photo in the mirror.

Making the room feel like a temporary home by throwing your things (jewelry, clothes shoes) around is also a must. This was my room before I got the chance to "make it mine"!

You don’t want to see the after photo, but I'll give you an artistic view of some accessories I took with me!:)

When in Brussels eating your weight in chocolate seems like a pretty good idea!

Fancy food! It looked much better than it tasted! I'll stick to chocolate, thank you very much!

Mustard shoes

Just a quick outfit post with a little something I wore last week while in Bucharest. I’m still in Belgium right now trying to make the best of my trip but that is no reason to slow down on updating the blog.

The mustard shoes are a recent addition to my closet, they are in fact a bit yellow but very cute and reasonably comfortable. I’m also wearing a 60’s vintage jacket that I was lucky to find in mint condition but somehow forgot about so I thought I ought to debut it rather sooner than later. You never know when the first snow will attack and wearing jackets will be out of discussion. The dress is very simple but I love it because is made out of this really light weight wool and goes with everything you can imagine.

Taking the show on the road: Belgium

I’ve probably already landed in Bruxelles by the time you all read this; I prepared this text in advance. Needless to say I’m super excited; I really needed a break from pretty much everything. Thank God for the trips – they are one of the reasons I don’t have a nervous breakdown now and again.

I don’t know if I will be able to do any live blogging from Belgium and I won’t stress too much about it, but I did prepare some articles to keep you entertained while I’m gone.

How was packing you ask? Well, I‘m very proud of myself, I only packed 2 dresses, 2 skirts, 2 shirts, 3 sweaters and 2 pairs of shoes including what I’m wearing on the plain for the whole week I’m spending there. I went a bit overboard with the accessories: hats, belts, gloves, scarves and the rest but they didn’t take so much space so it’s ok. I’ve also heard it’s even colder there than in Bucharest right now so I’m sure I’ll be happy I got them.

By now I transformed packing into an art; I know what to take and what to leave behind. I can share the knowledge if you’re interested.

I would be grateful for any good tips on places to visit, shop, eat, dance (especially:))) in Bruxelles.

Witchy: maxi dress, floppy hat and a statement necklace

So, guys, remember how I told you people write to me asking all kind of stuff?! Well, I decided I’m going to answer their emails on the blog (when I have the time that is).

Carmen sent me this email: I’ve read in an interview you gave that you are sometimes inspired by books and characters in them to dress a certain way. I really don’t get that! Can you explain?

Every time I read a book I start living a bit in the universe of that specific book and I end up thinking about it a lot. I’m also a super visual person and while I read I can also “see” (with my minds eyes:) scenes from it, imagine how the characters look like and so on. It's a bit like emerging in a tube of worm water - you feel it all over and can't get out all dried and dandy.

I’ve also been known to fall in love/hate some of the personages, quote from the books I like to the dismay and amusement of all my friends. Right now I’m reading a lot of fantasy books, one of the lasts was The Wise Woman (by Phillipa Gregory), also Good Omens, The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter (by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett) so I’m pretty much unconsciously dressing like a witch:)))).

Don’t take that literally – I’m not going to wear a pointy hat and black lipstick, it’s just a general unrational desire I have to wear maxi lengths, dark clothes, heavy jewelry and large head adornments. My sister just finished A Song of Ice and Fire and can’t stop seaching dragon rings, fur collars and capes which I couldn’t be happier about.

I hope I explained myself. I can’t honestly understand how others can read something and not be inspired to dress or do something else maybe, but you know, mainly be inspired. I guess, I’m just weird that way.

I’m wearing the maxi dress my sister made for me, but it seems I have a skirt on because the upper part is hidden under a cute black shirt that I toped with a statement necklace.

Rockstar diaries: biker jacket and white lace dress

I sometimes remember clothes I used to be obsessed with in the past and decide to wear them again for the sake of all the good times. The following outfit is one of those! I used to wear this biker jacket a lot back when my collection of leather jackets wasn’t as extensive as it‘s these days. Still, it’s one of my cooler pieces.

Oh, and my pair of white Adidas Superstar that I bought one summer I spent in Seattle and wore for a week every single day. I love these shoes – so many amazing memories and adventures we shared - Me and my sister in an foreign country, leaving in a huge, interesting city, so far away from anything familiar but happy and free and trying to experience as much as possible, making new friends, dreaming.

Really, it’s the memories, the smells, the colors and people that make a garment special, the ones you associate with that particular item, not the brands and price tags.

The clothes I love the most are the ones I’ve been happy in, the ones that have seen smiles and kisses and laughs and starry skies and early mornings and airports, the ones that traveled with me and have seen the sea.

All my favorite clothes could tell wonderful stories and know more about me than most people do.

That’s why I’m mainly an emotional dresser.

It’s not just me being really into stories right now - just look at the December Issue of Flare Magazine featurig some pretty dramatic looks (Givenchy, Emilio Pucci, Bottega Veneta) inspired by medieval literature and armor and shoot by Chris Nicholls.

Models Emily Fox, Dani and Finlay Moore are portreting royalty and succed in delivering the superiority and ice cold detachment which I imagine blue blood spawns should have.

I like the feel of canavas and twisted family portrets this pictures have. I'm sensing a bit of a good sister, evil sister and creepy sister vibe going one here. Or maybe I'm just imagining things and should just ease up on horror stories?!!

The stuff of fairytales: flower crown, full skirt, fur and rings

I know everybody is inspired by somebody, inspiration is what drives us all. In life inspirational people are called heroes, in fashion they are called style icons.

Is not that you want to dress exactly like them, it’s just that you like what you see, something about their style is different, original and fresh and gives you all sort of ideas.

So when the guys over at DivaHair asked me to be part of this competition where a couple of Romanian fashion bloggers have to post an outfit inspired by a fashion icon of their choosing, I said why not?

I guess my outfit was unconsciously inspired by Ulyana Sergeenko as I didn’t even know about the contest when I took the photos.
The reason I love this Russian photographer/socialite turned fashion designer is that she doesn’t look like anybody else except maybe some past royalty who had to travel back in time an update her look a little bit. Her outfits are out of this world feminine, it’s all about maxi dress or swing skirts, defined waists, majestic coats, high heels and a lot of unusual hair accessories, scarves, tiaras and hats.

Confessions of a green, glitter dress

My mother is really going to flip out when she'll see these pictures of me wearing her “party” dress from way back. In fact I think she was wearing this when she was my age or even a bit younger.
I love it, it’s nothing fancy, she had it made by a seamstress, it really simple but flattering and kind of sexy because it’s a bit see through and sparkly.

Can you imagine?

Being a cute dress and being loved by a girl, being with her in some important and happy moments of her life, maybe seeing her fall in love and then somehow being forgotten by the said girl in the closet, staying there for years, sad and nostalgic, hearing the stories the other clothes are telling about the world and your “girl”, husband and children and then, 20 years later, another girl comes, in a way she resembles your original girl (she’s her daughter) and she snatches you from the old closet and happily wears you, and you get to see the world again, you’re now getting to make new friends like the black leather jacket she’s usually wearing over you and you hope that this new girl will love you for a long time and you won’t be abandoned in the closet again for years and years.
You really want to see this girl dancing and falling in love too.
The new girl wears a lot of jewelry and a huge camera that she uses to take photos of everything and everyone, she’s also super tall so you get to be shorter and see things that you never got to see before :))))).

Dear dress, don’t worry, I will love you forever and I promise to show you the world, things have changed but it’s still amazing!!!! says the new girl (me that is – I’m the new girl, you guys!!! :)))).

Child star - Thylane Lena-Rose Blondeau

I’m sure that most of you saw at some point a picture of this little girl.

I did too and instantly wanted to know who she was. A few googles later I knew the basics: she is a 10 years old French “supermodel” poetically named Thylane Léna-Rose Blondeau.

Usually my skin just crumbles at the sight of a kid acting like a grown person. I’m old fashioned that way and think that childhood should be just that, little creatures acting all crazy without a care in the world, because let’s face it, life sometimes sucks and it’s good to have a little fun while you can.

Leaving all that behind I have to give it to this little girl, she sure knows how to work a photo shoot, she puts me and so many others to shame, poses wise and pretty much anything else. Also, with a face like that, what else is she suppose to be, a math teacher? She has a natural model beauty, very reminiscent of Brigitte Bardot or Lou Doillon.

I know that she posed for Vogue in august and that caused a lot of controversy, being so young and having to put all that make-up and posing a bit inappropriate for her age. While I don’t really get why make a kid portray an adult in that manner even if it’s ironically as Tom Ford explained, I believe the huge scandal this got transformed into was ridiculous.

They even compared it with the infamous nude picture of 10 year old Brook Shields taken in 1975 by Gary Cross which really took this controversy over the top for me, I don't think the two cases have much in common.

That being said I believe that her best photos are when she is just being herself - a kid; she is so beautiful and such a natural. I love her gap tooth, pretty eyes and flawless hair and I predict a bright future for this little lady in the modeling world, I’m guessing she will have even more success when she grows older and can do catwalks, but until then I leave you with some of her beautiful pictures.

Blog Spotlight - Niotillfem

As uneventful as my life can be sometimes I have rarely wished to be someone else, but I do wish I could live some people life sometimes (just for a little while though). And, man, I wish I could switch places with Sandra from Niotillfem for a week (I’m not sure she would agree as she’d get the short end of the stick with this one).

I’m reading her blog for years (almost 6 – she started writing in 2005) and Niotillfem is one of the first blogs I’ve ever read and I still consider it to be one of my favorites.

The first 2 or 3 years I was just looking at the photos and imagining what the texts were about, filling in the blanks as I “read” a new post; she wrote (and still does) mainly in Swedish, only now she makes a short English resume of the text and you can also choose to translate the blog with Google translate.

The reason I love this blog is because is not so much about fashion but more about living and love and friends and books and music and food and picnics and trips and Sweden and New York.

I feel like I know this girl (I’m being totally weird but in a non stalkery way I promise – she has too much of myself in her to build her a shrine :)))).

Her blog is in fact a dairy of her life in a more real and authentic way than most, she talks about happiness and joy and bliss but also about heartbreak and sadness and getting through the day.

I’m also pretty sure hear original Swedish texts are amazing, they have to be because I can feel that even with Google translate (it’s pretty hard for something to sound halfway decent and touching even when a program automatically transforms a post from Swedish to English).

So Sandra is 27 and she works as a copywriter, she used to live in Sweden until last year when she decided to move to New York as she felt she wouldn’t survive another Nordic winter. And she actually did move to New York (in October I think) which is amazing, she just did everything in her power to make it happen, looked for a job, found one with her friend Nina (they still work together as a creative team in an advertising agency - copywriter and art director), got the USA visa and now she’s leaving the dream.

The only bad part is that her boyfriend (Ludvig) and her are not together all the time (from what I can gather and can see these two have an epic love story going on and are absolutely adorable together, it’s sickening really:)))). He lives in L.A right now, she lives in New York but they make it work somehow.
The thing is she doesn’t have everything figured out, she has insecurities, she doesn’t think about herself as being perfect but she does fight to be happy and she goes for what she wants which is everything any of us can and should do.

You’ll see a lot of amazing pictures on her blog, an impressive number of friends (her blog is as much about her as about her friends), parties and adventures, trips, nights out and good looking people and food.

When it comes to fashion she has a very clear style, I don’t think I've ever seen her steering away from it, it’s very specific, a retro and endearing mix of sailor pin up and Lolita elements - always feminine, high waisted and sweet – I love it but I would never be able to commit to just one style.

When you read a blog for such a long time you end up knowing a scary amount of things about a person (especially when you have a memory like me when it comes to non essential stuff) but I feel this is enough, I’ll leave you with the pictures and I promise you’re gonna love her and the blog, the archives are amazing.

Yes, I know, it's almost winter and I keep on posting these late summer - early fall outfits, but I did take the photos already (some of them in stress conditions as people were starring and stuff like that:)))) and I’ll be damn if I’m not going to show them to you, willing or not. Also it has really been summer in Romania until like a month ago.

And no, I wasn’t going to a costume party dressed as Audrey Hepburn as many of you might think, It’s just I’m so f*****g classy I can’t help it, I just throw something on and I end up looking like that!:)))))))))))))))) It’s a blessing and a curse!

Actually the intent of this get up was something in the lines of a “formal”-ish day to night outfit as I had an event at work and then I had to go out and didn’t have any time to go change, so I just told myself that for the night I could just take off the jacket and belt and ta-daaa, I was ready. Brilliant right?!

I ended up being slightly overdressed even with the neon flats and colorful bracelets. Wasn’t the first time either! :))))))

Don’t you just love my white collar that I’m wearing as a necklace? I just don’t seem to be able to do things the normal way!:))))

Wearing a full skirt dress with puff out sleeves and a corset type bodice might not be something you think to wear at work, but I did. I my defense it was my birthday. I’m not insane, I wore this last month when the weather was pretty warm still, hence de ruffled metallic sandals I braved the day with.

I also have to admit I use any excuse to wear my more outrageous vintage dresses. Any major and minor holiday is a good day for overdressing; sometimes just being Monday is enough. Lots of jewelry are also sacrificed every time I feel like impersonating some blue blood lady – I’m nothing if not committed. :))))).

The only concession I made to fall was the short trench jacket that I wore over the stripped dress, I feel it gives the outfit a modern feel, not that I’m particularly preoccupied with looking all that trendy. Sometimes you just have to look as if you master teleportation!:)

The dragon ring is yet another proof of my sister’s obsession with dragons and anything fantasy (aka "A song of Ice and Fire") related, she’s literally haunting for mythological animals jewelry and I couldn’t be happier.

How about a perfect outfit for a Sunday or any day as a matter of fact? I sometimes like to imagine what I would wear if I had no financial restrictions and access to all the clothes in the world.

Today it would be these: an ultra feminine blue polka dots dress with a red belt and a very modern leather jacket over it. The bag and shoes would have to be color block pieces - I prefer color blocking in accessories, it's so much more effective! A huge necklace wouldn't hurt either! :)

I can’t believe I was actually going to sell this skirt, in fact I had it in my online vintage shop for a couple of months. Thank God nobody bought it because I would have regretted it; it’s so cute with the water lilies print and shape and fits me really well. I don’t know what I was thinking even considering parting with it!!! Oh well, let’s put it on temporary lost of judgement. It happens to me sometimes.

The lace blouse I’m wearing is actually a mini dress that I can’t wear as a dress because it’s way too short. Story of my life!!! It does make an adorable top though; it’s all about the back bows.

The lovely statement necklace I have on was sent to me by the Wholesale team and I love it. Wholesale asked me to pick something from their site and I obviously went for the jewelry. It took me hours to decide, they have so many things (also super affordable) and I think you’ll like what I chose, I’m going to show them all off in my future outfits :))).

Yeah, I feel the weirdest attraction towards mirrored lens sunglasses also known as the douchebag sunglasses. It’s like the attraction you sometimes feel towards bad boys or cakes, you know they are bad for you but it feels so right. :))))). And they go so well with my badass silver heels.

Here’s the part two of the Dimensione Danza outfit I told you about last Monday. Ok, I admit, it’s the same outfit, I just added the cardigan but I think it looks completely different. I had a lot of fun trying to figure out different ways to wear it, the long parts in the front give you the liberty to wrap it around your body however you want; it’s a little bit like a stylish blanket :))).
