Oscar de la Renta Fall Winter 2013 - New York Fashion Week

One of my favorite fashion shows from New York Fashion Week was Oscar de la Renta Fall/Winter 2013 Collection. The colors were spot on (from bright pink, emerald green, indigo to the classic Renta red, they were all there), and the cuts just perfect.

I have to admit that I was curious to see if the fact that Oscar de la Renta invited John Galliano, the disgraced Dior designer, to join his atelier for three weeks and give his input on the upcoming collection would have an impact on the designs.

Also does that mean that Galliano will make a comeback in fashion? Regardless of all the unanswered questions in the fashion news treadmill the result was amazing - they are a pair made in fashion designers heaven. Even though the collection was classic Oscar - rich, chic and elegant you could catch little glimpses of Galliano now and then, like the wrap coats and cloche hats.

My favorite details were the see-through gloves in different shades gathered over the wrist! I just love those! I need them in my life!

Even if this was a fall collection the clothes had a very light feel to them. Perfectly tailored jackets with unusual cuts were paired with simple midi skirts.

I loved how the cardigan jackets and Oscar de la Renta dresses were gathered at the waist with lovely, thin belts. I was impressed with the styling and the accessories as well - those three shades of lipstick perfectly matched to every outfit, the simple, vibrant shoes, the wet Spanish hair look – everything just worked!

The rich colors and bold jewelry (necklaces, brooches, earrings and beaded crystals details) were perfectly chosen and added an extra layer of flavor to this already delicious mix.

I thought all the prints and textures were truly fabulous. The long, elegant but colorful gloves, fur accents and gorgeous ball gowns made this collection one for the fashion history books!

Let’s not forget the fashion house just celebrated 50 years of work in New York City so Happy Birthday to them for that too!

So, are you as enthusiastic about this Oscar de la Renta fall collection as I am? Do you find it inspiring or not?

Outfit: pink herringbone coat

Leave it to me to wear a pair of sky high white ankle boots on a rainy day! I didn’t touch them for months but somehow decided that this was the right day to do it!

Oh well, it wasn’t that bad as after work I spent some time with Costin and Denisa, talked, laughed and took outfit photos because that’s what we do! It's very glamorous!:)

They also made fun of me and said I’m too skinny and should eat a burger which was hilarious because this is the first time in my life someday has ever told me that! It’s usually more like: “Don’t you touch that burger!” or “Leave some cake/cupcakes/ice-cream for me too!” I blame it on the purple skirt and white jumper – they made me look slimmer then I am! Also they see me through friendship goggles!

You might remember the pink herringbone coat, I wore it before and it’s one of my favorite for years now. I like to belt it and wear it whenever an outfit needs a bit of extra color! I hope you like my new  statement necklace and silver elephant bracelet as well!

I'm wearing:
statement necklace / colier - romwe
purple skirt /fusta mov – vintage
herringbone coat / palton - miniPrix
white ankle boots / ghete inalte albe - Asos
elephant bracelet, tights, jumper / bratara elefant, ciorapi, pulover - random brand
bag / geanta – random brand

Harvey Specter - Suits Glory

You knew I would eventually write about Harvey Specter. It just had to be done - drooling didn’t cut it anymore!

Recently named the third most popular new original series in USA Network's history, Suits is a great show that you won’t regret watching. Too bad this second season it’s almost done with the last episode airing next week. Can’t wait for more!

And if that doesn’t convince you then the eye candy involved will. Suits is the story of a successful lawyer - Harvey Specter (played by Gabriel Macht) - the best closer in New York, who hires a young man, Mike Ross (played by Patrick J. Adams) a genius with an incredibly high IQ and a photographic memory. The twist is Specter tells his firm that Ross graduated from Harvard Law School when in fact he never actually attended law school.

The show is witty, funny and highly addictive. But my favorite thing about Suits it’s mister Harvey Specter and his old-Hollywood-glam-look. That, Donna and Louis Litt!

I know for a fact that you all just went into day dreaming mode as soon as you heard that name. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t judge, I’m with all of you in this! That’s not to say the good looking actors and actresses are the only thing this TV show has going on - we’re talking serious acting here, believable characters, great storylines, sharp writing and a lot of humor.

Suits has depth, it’s smart and funny without ever going overboard. And just so you know – the bromance in Suits it’s off the charts (personally I’m a sucker for a good bromance). The whole boss-mentor relationship is one of the highlights of the show.

But let’s talk about Harvey! That man is so sexy and confident that I would get into trouble only to be represented by his fine self! And don’t even get me started on his hair, that thing deserves his own television show that’s how perfect it looks.

He has so much swag it’s ridiculous! Harvey Specter is basically half charm, half men suits tailored to perfection, literally topped with the sleekest hairdo in showbiz.

 Do you? Do you, really?:))))

And yes, I am aware Harvey Specter is not a real person, but he sure knows how to put himself together in the morning. He is the epitome of television fashion; his style is what most people just don’t have the possibility to achieve in real life. What I love about him is the fact that while looking like a God he doesn’t seem he is trying too hard. Harvey Specter makes impeccable look effortless.

I think I learned more about fine, quality suites by watching Harvey Specter’s wardrobe then I’d ever learned in my life and I’m a sucker for his third pieces high end designer suits. You can just see that they are tailored with impeccable precision.

In the accessory department he keeps it simple, but the pieces he does choose make an instant statement: amazing cufflinks, perfect ties, elegant designer watches or the occasional neatly folded pocket square. And the most important part in Mister Specter`s wardrobe is his confidence because, let’s face it, no matter how nice a suit you’re wearing if you don’t have the goods to back that up it won’t work.

Even if Harvey never looks anything less then amazing in his contemporary Tom Ford suites, Gabriel Macht describes the style of his character as "Cary Grant meets Steve McQueen".

The fantasy of Harvey Specter is complete because this personage is not only well dressed and painfully handsome but also damn brilliant. Is there anything sexier then that? I tough so! Besides his cocky swagger and smile he gets his charm from being so damn smart and arrogant. Harvey Specter quotes are pretty cool!
Why don’t you check out the corner of 81st and kiss my ass?
I refuse to answer that on the grounds that I don’t want to!
That's the difference between you and me, you wanna lose small, I wanna win big!
I’m against having emotions, not using them!
Do I think that I’m smarter than you? You’re damn right I do.
I stand corrected, your ‘Fast Times at Ridgemont High’ quote, that proves you belong at the adult table.

I for one give the Oscar for most stylish man on television right now to him. Sorry Mister Draper, but a new player is in town and if you want to get ahead you have to step up your game!

I’m telling you girls and boys, if you want to feel better after a hard day, just watch an episode and you will see what I’m talking about. Harvey is the smoothest, most charming guy on TV right now.

Dress me up

You probably know that if given the choice of only wearing one piece of clothing for the rest of my life I would go for a beautiful dress without thinking twice.

So when one of my readers, Melissa, sent me this email full of lovely compliments (thank you so very much) while also asking about my dresses I thought I should answer here.

I never counted them, but let’s just say we’re talking triple digits here. I'm a bit of a collector or so I tell  myself! More than half of all my dresses are vintage. I’m always on the hunt for a great retro piece and nobody is really safe when it comes to that.

I did “clean” all of my older relatives wardrobes already and because I’m open to hand me downs, my friends often give me pretty dresses they know I will make work, but that they wouldn’t be caught dead in. That’s not to say I will wear anything, but rather that I like things that other people don’t really understand or even see themselves wear.

I’m also constantly keeping an eye open for a special dress every time I window shop or check out online stores. In fact, I always look at dresses first and then jewelry and shoes – it’s like a personal ritual. I love them all: maxi, short, party dresses and day dresses, silk or cotton, colorful and printed. I always think about them as feeling like home, comfort and confidence.

It’s hard for me to make a top of my favorite dresses and even if I’d try it wouldn’t be very objective – many of them are important to me because they mean something emotionally, they are linked to happy times, beautiful memories, people and feelings I had wearing them. All of the dresses in the photos were and still are some of my favorite dresses, there are many more that I’m sure are going to make an appearance on this blog at some point, but I chose these because I already had pictures.

Once again, guys, thank you so much for all the lovely things you write to me, I could never express how much they really mean to me!

Emerald green

Burgundy who? Forget about that - it’s so last season! Prepare yourself for the new star color: it’s none other than the bold, beautiful, bright emerald green which I always loved and felt deserved its moment of glory. Finally all the other fashion people have caught up!:)))) It was about time!

I so love this color and can’t wait to get my hands on some emerald green stuff - now that we'll probably have more to choose from. And I have to hurry before it gets too mainstream, everyone starts wearing it and eventually ruins it for me. And I’m not even joking here, this is serious business - it happened so many times before with people forever destroying something that I loved by overdoing it. Studs aren’t for example what they used to be in my world!

I’m still safe for now as it mostly popped on the catwalks and street style blogs.
Emerald Green (no.17-5641) was just officially crowned as Color of the Year and given the Oscar by Pantone (the company that uses polls in which designers and brands are asked about the colors they’re featuring in their work - the results of the pools help identify the next big color for that year).

Here’s what Leatrice Eiseman, the executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, said about it: “Lively. Radiant. Lush. A color of elegance and beauty that enhances our sense of well-being, balance and harmony. Green is the most abundant hue in nature — the human eye sees more green than any other color in the spectrum. It’s also the color of growth, renewal and prosperity — no other color conveys regeneration more than green.”

The growing popularity of this color can be directly tied with what’s literally “going down” the runways. And emerald green is king on the runway. It was a long time coming though - especially in the jewelry department, this color had been making an impact for quite a while (anyone remembers the 2011 Golden Globes?!).

And then in 2012, emerald was featured in a number of collections like Gucci, Lanvin and Kenzo. This year Zac Posen, Chanel, Michael Kors, Stella McCartney, Nanette Lepore, Tracy Resse, Marimekko and Vivienne Tam, among others, showcased this color in their spring 2013 runway collections.

For me personally this color works wonders in every department and even more in jewelry and I fully intend to make the most of it. I love the fact that is going to look so great with my classic pieces.

Don’t forget to get your ticket for Emerald City (and I’m not talking about Seattle here), because you won’t regret it, this year’s IT color has something special, maybe even a bit o magic!
